New Edition JUST received a lifetime achievement award from the music industry and I was wondering WHERE to they fit in as far as the great r&b groups of all time.

Like is New Edition one of the GREAT groups of all time? ARe they a Top 10, Top 20, Top 30 group? After the Temptations, Isley Brothers, Supremes, O Jays, etc... where does New Edition fit in?

Where does New Edition rank among 'MY ERA'.... En Vogue, TLC, Boyz II Men, Jodeci, Guy, ..... I think they're probably still the most popular of even THESE groups... even though they may have not had the 'sales' success.... BUT, they spawned 3 solo artist and a big group....

New Edition is an interesting group. How do YOU view them?

i view them as being the pioneers to open the doors for other male groups such as "new kids on the block", "boyz 2 men", etc. therefore, i would rank them as being either the TOP 10 through 25 for the best r&b male group.

during the 80's they were phenominal and there were no one else like them before they hit stardom with the exception of "the jacksons 5" and then just "the jacksons". the jacksons (5) were even more phenominal due to them being an actual band playing their own instruments.

new editions were great muscians and extraodinary stage performers. remember them for their performance on "the tom joyner sky show" a few years ago? now that was a treat to see them all together doing the dayum thang. since, i am old skool, my favorite album was titled "new edition" and my 2 favorites were "mr. telephone man" & "cool it now". those two tracks were OUTSTANDING/SUPERB, as i think/know many others would agree to be one or two of their best singles during that era.

now when joohnny gil came on the scene my favorite album was "heartbreak"' and i fell in love with "can you stand the rain". omg! that was the shssssshyt sending chills up and down my spine!!!!! when ralph went solo i almost died when he came out with "sensitivity'. that is my all time favorite by him. my all time favorite album by bobby b is "don' be cruel".

so again to answer your question, those men will always be apart of our music history.......they are already legendaries of their time!!!!!

They were a hot group for the better part of a decade. They were responsible for spawning solo artists and groups like BBD, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill. They evolved from bubblegum pop to real r&b/soul, changing with the times. That deserves credit and they got that with the lifetime achievement award. Now where do they stand all time - I'd have a hard time putting them in my top 20 of all groups. Of 80's-90's groups they would make top 10 probably.
